Interior Design for Small Spaces
Great Interior Design Concepts
A great interior designer once said “Interior Design is making the best possible use of the available space.” If your bedroom is considerably small, have no fear- your room can still be stylish and functional. When we are challenged with a small space, our Orlando Interior Design team knows how to work with awkward corners and less than ideal window placements. Making a room look and feel larger than it actually is, continues to be a work of art. Today we want to share with you some of our designer secrets for transforming small spaces into practical and charming sections of the home.
Design Elements To Consider
If you’re trying to make a room seem larger than it is, it’s important to use a light colored paint for the walls. Light colored walls will open up the room. Painting the wall and possibly the floor a light color allows the room to breathe, makes it more inviting and appears to be more spacious that it actually is.
If you have a small home or apartment with a sliding glass door that leads to the patio, extend your living room outside. Even with the door closed, your living room or kitchen will seem much larger. When the weather is nice, leave the door open and encourage visitors to make use of the outside area.
Ditch the coffee table. If you have a small living room and already have a dinner table, there is no use for a coffee table. Instead, you can have side tables on each sides of the couch. Ditching the coffee table will work especially well if you extend your living area to the patio. You will most likely have a table outside, therefore there is no need to have one in the living area.
To truly make a small room appear larger than it is, you must get creative with storage places. Nothing says “small and stuffy” like a cluttered room. If you asked our Orlando Interior Design team to make make the most out of your small bedroom, we would do exactly that. You would find stylish storage containers under your bed, in your closet and strategically placed around the room. If we were to help you with Interior Design for your not-so-large living area, we would recommend hanging as much as possible on the walls- even bicycles! As for the kitchen, we would make the most out of a small space by hanging your pots and pans and adding shelves to the back of cupboards. Interior Design is about functionality. If you can’t live comfortably in a room, the room has failed.
